Glasshouse Mountains

On Sunday James, Jason, David and I drove up to the Glasshouse Mountains to do some hiking. The Glasshouse Mountains are a set of a dozen or so weathered volcanos that haven't been active in 25 million years. We got an early start so we were able to climb two of them - Mt Tibrogargan and Mt Ngungun. We started with Mt Tibrogargan.

Mt. Tibrogargan. You can see the track on the right hand side of the mountain in this photo. About 50 meters of elevation was particularly steep.

A panorama from the top of Tibrogargan looking west.

Mt Ngungun was considerably easier and lower, only about 260m to Tibrogargan's 350m.

On the way up Mt Ngungun we passed a pretty sweet cave. It didn't go that far back, but it was still pretty neat to step into the stone. It was much cooler inside as well.

Jason and a butterfly, just shy of the summit.

Mt Coonowrin in the front and Mt Beerwah in the back. These stony spurs were the central magma cones of the volcanos that were once here.
