As of tomorrow morning I will have been down here in Brisbane for 2 weeks. A lot has happened since then - I'm now student at UQ, I gave my first presentation to my research group, helped out at a tutorial with some students, found a permanent place to live by successfully navigated a lot of byzantine paperwork, seen several crazy lizard species and dozens of different birds, had a barbecue, and traveled up the nearest molehill they call a mountain, Mt Coot-Tha (although it is apparently less of a molehill if you are riding your bike up it...). So far I'm really enjoying Brisbane - it's a beautiful city. The weather is always sunny except for brief periods when it the tropical rainstorms roll in with thunder and lightning, and the people seem nice and laid back.
I've been trying to take lots of photos while I've been down here, so this blog will mostly focus on sharing those with you guys back home. Many hearts to you all.

This is wonderful, Pat! Thank you for sharing. The pictures are terrific and the commentary super entertaining. I look forward to following your adventures (and Mary's too, once she joins you!)
